Hi, my name is Diana Macomber and I'm addicted to bad reality television. More specifically, MTV's Siesta Key. It is my new guilty pleasure and I can't get enough of it!
In fact, last Friday night after the kids went to bed, I poured myself some wine, made some edible cookie dough and binge-watched the first season on my iPad to get caught up and ready for the new epsiode, which was on Monday. Don't judge me!
Remember the show Laguna Beach and how amazingly terrible it was (and by terrible, I mean amazing)?! Siesta Key is like that, except it's post-college, and in Siesta Key, Florida - which just happens to be a place I know well. Remember what it was like being 21/22, barely having responsibility and the insane amount of boy drama? I do. This show is ALL of that. The only gross thing is that the main character Alex has slept with the entire cast (and most of Siesta Key) except for one girl, and they all seem to find that acceptable?! Anyways, these kids live the life! They spend 90% of their time in a bathing suit, which will make you sick because everyone is gorgeous.
My girlfriend Nicole and I spent half a day dissecting this show and all the characters. We just can't help ourselves. And the soundtrack! The music is so purposely and perfectly matched.
If you want to jump in, let me get your caught up real quick so you know what you've been missing. Alex's dad apparently paid for the pilot, so obviously everything revolves around Alex. So here we go:
- Alex. His family has money, which means he has toys. He has slept with every female cast member, except for Chloe.
- Chloe is Alex's best friend. She also is a class A shit-stirrer. It's hard to tell who her BFF is considering she turns on them all. In fact, her BFF Amanda punched her in the face and broke her nose (episode 2).
- Amanda is a cute blonde thing that seems to be closest with Juliette. She lied to Chloe about sleeping with Alex, and also broke her nose. But don't worry, they are all copacetic now.
- Juliette is obsessed with Alex, but got pushed to the side because of Kelsey. So then she started dating Garrett, who is Kelsey's ex.
- Garrett is a nice guy who is into fitness. There ain't a whole lot upstairs, but he's nice to look at. Juliette started dating him to get back to Kelsey.
- Kelsey is a model who was dating Garrett, but couldn't help herself get cozy with rich Alex, who everyone warned her about. So things ended with Garrett. Kelsey was introduced to this group through Chloe - they work together. At a bar.
- Madisson is Kelsey's roommate and is a recent engineering grad, so she apparently is the brains in this group. She was Alex's girlfriend in high school. But now she's in love with Brandon.
- Brandon is friends with Alex and is just as big of a player/douche. He wants to be a rapper, but was told his music sucks by a producer. When he drinks, he can't help himself around other girls.
- And finally, there's Pauly, Alex's cousin, who quite frankly is a deadbeat and is way too old to be hanging out with this crew. Oh and he wants to be a rapper when he grows up.
PHEW! Did you catch all that? See why you need lots of wine to watch this show?! It's just too much fun NOT to watch. As I said, it will take you right back to the good 'ole days of young love.
To get caught up, you watch episodes on mtv.com: Full episodes Which I suggest you do, since the new episode airs tonight.

The Flu and other germ related problems
I don't believe in the flu shot. There, I said it. I don't. What is the point of a shot that not only does NOT prevent the flu, but actually gives you a higher change of getting it? Unless they can come up with a flu shot vaccine that actually prevents it, I'll take my chances.
BUT, when it comes to my kids, I'm all about the flu shot. In fact, I'm all about ANY kind of shot that will keep my kids healthy. But seriously, how did the flu "epidemic" get so bad this year? There are schools shutting down in hopes it will prevent more cases. That is insane to me.
The boys' daycare has been dealing with RSV and the stomach bug. I, myself, was hit with that stupid stomach bug right before Christmas. Thankfully, it was just me and no one else in my house.
Here's what really drives me crazy. Parents send their sick kids to school ALL. THE. TIME. I can't stand it. When Jake looks like he's not 100%, I keep him home. I would rather him stay home and be sure he's healthy, than risk him getting really sick and worse, spreading it around the school. I wish other parents would do the same.
Case and point - this past week I kept Jake home because I knew he wasn't 100%. He had a slight fever of 99.1, which Tylenol quickly addressed, but I insisted he stay home with me. I'm so damn nervous about the flu, I didn't want to take any chances. Turns out - he has an ear infection (which is whole 'nother story itself). The sad thing is, I was beyond happy it was just an ear infection. That's an easy thing to fix and in a couple days he will be good as new.
Jake will get his flu shot in a couple weeks when he has his 4-year check up. Shane just got the booster for the flu, so he's good to go.
So parents, please do me a favor - keep your kids home if you think they might be sick. And tell your other parent friends. It's driving me crazy!

Banana Wind
I'm back! New blog. New theme. New layout. What do you think so far?
Now, I know what you are thinking - what the heck is Banana Wind? Well...I'll tell you. Banana Wind is an instrumental song featured on Jimmy Buffett's album of the same name. It's a beautiful tune that will make you think of palm trees, cool breezes and tropical sun. I don't like doing things in silence. I like having music on at all times - it just makes me feel better. Writing can be a way of releasing various types of energy, and having that song in the background is a perfect pairing to that.
You can have a listen here on YouTube.
Anyways, there's lots of good stuff to share, so stay tuned. You just never know what will pop up! I'll also update the recipes as I find new ones to share.
